Anglais express : peak, peek, pique

Quelle est la différence entre peak, peek et pique ? Ces trois mots se prononcent exactement pareil, mais ont des significations bien différentes.

Peak et peek sont souvent confondus l'un avec l'autre alors que pique est souvent employé de la mauvaise manière !

Alors, comment les employer ?

Peak:

1. The pointed top of a mountain (le pic d'une montagne).
2. The highest level, or the best at an activity (être le meilleur dans une activité).

Examples:

1. Let’s climb to the highest mountain peak.
2. I’m at peak fitness and ready for the marathon.

Peek:

1. To look at something secretly (jeter un coup d'oeil).
2. To show slightly, or to be slightly visible (avoir un aperçu de quelque chose).

Examples:

1. Did you have a peek at the cupcakes Elina is making for the party?
2.  Tonight we’re getting a sneak peek of the new fashion collection.

Pique:

1. To cause curiosity or interest (attiser la curiosité).
2. A sudden feeling of annoyance or anger (sentiment de colère soudain).

Examples:

1. The photo piqued her curiosity.
2. The loud music from the bar next door always piques my roommate.
